Fort Wayne Golf - Donald Ross Golf Club

In January of 2006 shortly after a failed attempt by us to buy a prominent golf course here in Fort Wayne, my partner (Quinn Griffin) and I (Dave Alverson) were made aware of Fairview Golf Club.

Uncertain what our next step might be, we decided to walk the daily fee golf course on a snow covered winter day on the south side of town.  With expectations low we started walking down number 1 fairway.  I’m honestly not sure if it was the low expectation, the snow cover, or a combination of both but the contour and design of the golf were amazing and we were honestly blown away that it was a 1927 Donald Ross Design.  We continued to walk the remainder of the golf course and by the time we were finished we were hooked.  We closed on the property March 6, 2006 and opened under the new name, “Donald Ross Golf Club”.

Ten years later I’m most proud to be the value leader in the Fort Wayne golfing market with a historic twist.  Every day you will find a friendly staff, greens that roll 10 on the stimpmeter, golf carts with digital GPS and a cooler including ice, great food, and the best six pack prices in town!

Transplanted Scotsman Donald Ross transformed the American sports landscape in the first half of this century. At his death in 1948, he left behind a legacy of 413 courses, including such gems as Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, Seminole in Florida, and the site of the 1996 U.S. Open, Oakland Hills outside Detroit. Over 100 U.S. national championships have been played on his designs. Small wonder his name still resonates among the game's aficionados.

More national championships have been played on courses designed by Donald J. Ross than any other designer. Ross, who spent more than 40 years conceiving golf course designs, crafted our front nine, which opened back in 1927. As his namesake club, we take great pride in Ross's accomplishments.

This course continues to honor Ross. It spans 6,821 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72, a course rating of 72.5 and a slope of 126. This Fort Wayne golf course is a real gem, and a pleasure to play.
